Marina Marchese Newsroom

Marina Marchese

International honey expert Marina Marchese is a true renaissance woman -- entrepreneur, author, designer, beekeeper, and public speaker. Marina entered the incredible world of bees and honey in 1999 following an unexpected visit to a neighbor's apiary near her home in Weston, Connecticut. There, her first taste of fresh honey straight from the beehive would change the course of her life. Marina quit her job as an international designer, built her first beehive, acquired some Italian honeybees, and became a beekeeper. Shortly thereafter in Italy, Marina became passionate about single-origin honeys during a visit to Montalcino-- the City of Honey and has since carefully honed her tasting skills as a "honey sommelier" while working with a Connecticut-based Italian wine importer. Compelled by the Italian philosophy of terroir and the diverse flavor profiles of honey determined by the type of nectar gathered by the honeybees, Marina launched a revolutionary collection of artisanal honeys under her own Red Bee Brand. Today, Red Bee ® Honey sells her luxury honey to celebrity chefs, restaurants, cheese and artisan food shops all over the country.

In 2009, Marina Marchese authored her first book Honeybee: Lessons from an Accidental Beekeeper which is currently available in book stores, and kindle. Both her expertise and her honey business have been featured in many prestigious publications including the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, MORE Magazine, Martha Stewart radio and blog, Edible Communities, Bee Culture, and the American Bee Journal. Red Bee Honey was also the subject of an award winning video by YAHOO and in his latest book American Terroir, James Beard winning author Rowan Jacobsen recently dedicated a chapter of his book to his visit with Marina to taste honey at her Red Bee Apiary calling her "The Red Queen". A graduate of The School of Visual Arts in New York City, Marina's credits also include studying honey tasting in Montalcino, training as a Honey Judge at the University of Georgia, certification by the American Apitherapy Society and serving currently as the president of the Back Yard Beekeepers Association in Connecticut. Most recently, Marina founded the American Honey Tasting Society, to protect the quality and character of this noble food and educate the public through her signature Honey Tasting Laboratory Workshops across the United States at venues like The Four Seasons Restaurant, Stone Barns Center, Murray's Cheese Shop, Artisanal Premium Cheese Center and the United Nations.

Working from the charming red cottages that were once the home of celebrity ballerina and author Gelsey Kirkland, dancing partner of Mikhail Baryshnikov, Marina carries on this creative spirit at Red Bee, her boutique honeybee farm. Committed to a sustainable lifestyle, Red Bee boast a spectacular edible garden, chickens and honeybees. Marina's company also handcrafts a lavish collection of plant-based skin care products under the Rossape Brand including made-to-order soaps, cleansers and moisturizers. Red Bee ® products truly are an unparalleled labor of love and uncompromising integrity and Marina Marchese takes great pride in each of her endeavors. When not tending her Italian honeybees and her honey and skin-care product-lines, Marina writes about the culinary delights of artisanal honey and tours the world talking about her vast wealth of knowledge of this sweet industry.
